So what.....They're just Pitbulls!

So, I want to use this blog as a sounding off board, and am sorry if I ramble in this new post, but this is something I am very passionate about.

Yesterday, I was reading the news on Yahoo.com, when I came across a story about Miami Dolphin Joey Porter defending Michael Vick.....Seriously, why would anyone defend a cruel individual like Vick.
During an interview, Porter made the following comments: When asked if Vick deserves to play again, Porter stood behind the embattled quarterback. ''He's already been punished enough,'' Porter said. ``They gave him his penalty, and he's paying his penalty. What else should they do to him now?''
Seriously? how can someone defend such an inhumane person? These dogs are beautiful, and if they are not treated with the respect a pet should, then they as any other animal will turn on people. they were bread to be fighters, but they don't have to be anymore. I am very upset at the comments Porter made, because it makes it sound like it should be okay for anyone to get away with hurting a pet, and be able to do whatever they want afterwards.
Yes, Vick was sentenced to a specific amount of time to spend in Jail, and a certain amount of a fine, however, why should he be able to play professional football. Professional Football players have a responsibility since they are in the lime light, they have young men and women looking up to them, if they get away with crimes like this, and are able to come back to the sport, then what does that teach young people today, that there aren't real consequences for your actions? In this Yahoo.com article, it says that Vick is scheduled for release in July following a 23-month sentence, and reportedly has attorneys who believe he will be reinstated to play in the NFL once he has fulfilled that time. I truly hope and pray that the people in charge of the NFL will not let this man come back to football. This truly makes me ill to think that he will be able to make millions of $, after causing so many animals tremendous pain.
In the article, Porter also goes to say "they are just pit bulls, so what?" Porter, an owner of two pit bulls himself, said he doesn't understand why people are so quick to condemn Vick. Porter contends those same people who are against Vick don't often like pit bulls anyway. ''That's the funny thing about it,'' Porter said. ``If you want to get back on that topic, I've got pit bulls and I've got to put them under a different breed just to travel. You can't even fly pit bulls anywhere." This is like saying that if Vick raped a hooker, then so what she's just a hooker? No, it doesn't work that way. Being a loving dog owner, I am so hurt by the comments of Joey porter, and hope and pray that Vick will not be allowed back into the NFL.
